An Evening with a Scholar Sh H Tamim

Tadabbur Institute has the pleasure to host Shaykh Haytham Tamim of Utrujj Foundation at its An Evening with A Scholar series.

In this programme we invite expert speakers in a variety of fields to discuss important issues that are relevant to the community. The programme gives you the opportunity to have a dialogue and ask the guest questions related to the topic in discussion. 

On this occasion we will be discussing Contemporary Financial Transactions in the balance of Islam. You will have the opportunity to be enlightened about the scholarly position on a variety of current financial issues such as mortgages, shares, savings, bonds, investments, currency, and much more. 

In addition, we will discuss one of the main pillars of Islam, Zakah. What one should pay Zakah on? How much? To whom we can pay Zakah? Etc.

Shaykh Haytham Tamim is the founder and main teacher of the Utrujj Foundation. He has provided a leading vision for Islamic learning in the UK, which has influenced the way Islamic knowledge is disseminated. He has orchestrated the design and delivery of over 200 unique courses since Utrujj started in 2001.

His extensive expertise spans over 30 years across the main Islamic jurisprudence schools of thought. He has studied with some of the foremost scholars in their expertise; he holds some of the highest Ijazahs (certificates) in Quran, Hadith (the Prophetic traditions) and Fiqh (Islamic rulings). His own gift for teaching was evident when he gave his first sermon to a large audience at the age of 17 and went on to serve as a senior lecturer of Islamic transactions and comparative jurisprudence at the Islamic University of Beirut (Shariah College).

He has continued to teach; travelling around the UK, Europe and wider afield, and won the 2015 BISCA award (British Imams & Scholars Contributions & Achievements Awards) for Outstanding Contribution to Education and Teaching.

Shaykh Haytham Tamim serves on various boards and panels including:

  • The leader of the Lebanese Sunni community in the UK under Dar Al-Fatwa in the UK
  • Director of Shariah Solutions Limited, consultancy firm in Islamic finance
  • Vice President of the Association of Shariah Scholars in Islamic Finance (ASSIF) for Europe Islamic Finance and Banking Advisory Board, University of East London, Centre for Islamic Finance and Banking (2014-present)
  • Advisory Board of The Association of Muslim Lawyers (AML)
